I recently read about coconut oil being good as a natural deodorant because of it's anti bacterial qualities.
So I decided to try it and was pretty impressed. The best bit was I applied itin the morning and didn't have to reapply all day. The only issue I had was on the warmer days I felt slightly oily under the arms which made me feel uncomfortable. So I added bi carb.
Some people use bi carb soda as an antiperspirant mixed with corn flour and coconut oil to make a paste that can be put in an old deodorant bottle. You can even add essential oils or throw a vanilla bean into the mix, yummy vanilla coconut.
The bi carb help make me feel more dry.
I was camping over the weekend and lasted a couple of days without a shower even in the heat, still no smell.
I keep the coconut oil and bi carb separately in small jars such as old vegemite or jam jars.
I apply a small amount of coconut oil with my fingers then dip a finger in the bi carb soda and rub over the applied oil. It sounds messy but it's really not. I rub my hands together rather than washing them because the oil is good for the skin.
If you are switching from a chemical deodorant to coconut oil you will need to give yourself a couple of days to level out before you smell the results for yourself.
It's great to have a natural deodorant which is aluminium free, chemical free and simple.

Simple, homemade deodorant that actually works « lorigami – After yet another unfortunate mishap with a scented deodorant that makes me want to gag, and yet another hippie deodorant that doesn't actually, uh, deodorize, I was linked to this recipe with some pretty good recommendations. Blogger How About Orange has this to say about her recipe:
(My Mom) came across someone selling homemade deodorant nearly a year ago, tried it out, and found that it actually kept stinkiness away better than store brands. Plus most popular brands of deodorant contain aluminum, so if you can avoid stuffing metal into your pores, that seems like a good idea.
